‘Macha’ is the new concept from Moshi Moshi, the company that introduced the conveyor-belt sushi bar to Britain fourteen years ago. Selling Moshi Moshi's much loved sushi boxes, Macha will also offer customers a juice bar, a range of delicate Japanese sweets (wagashi), and a range of Macha based drinks including lattes, cappuccinos, Americanos and espressos.

Health. Energy. Longevity. These are some of the life-enhancing attributes ascribed to Macha, the powdered green tea which Zen Buddhist monks have been using in their tea ceremonies for more than 800 years.

Macha is one of richest sources of antioxidants known to us, and it is for this reason that drinking Macha regularly is thought to have such remarkable health benefits, helping to enhance our immune system and protecting us from degenerative diseases such as cancer. Antioxidants are also linked to supporting healthy blood pressure levels.

A superb stimulant, Macha helps to induce mental alertness and a feeling of well-being which can last up to 8 hours after drinking it. This is because the caffeine it contains is time-released into the blood stream over a longer period of time than is the case with coffee, allowing the body to assimilate the caffeine in a more sustained and healthy way.

Macha's potency stems from the fact that the entire tea leaf is being consumed, rather than merely infused as is the case with other teas. Four weeks before harvesting, the leaves are protected from the sun to promote production of chlorophyll - the reason for Macha's extraordinary green colour. The leaves are then ground into a fine jade-green powder using stone grinders. The powder is then whisked with water to create this beautiful and flavoursome drink.
